feministslut:
My research interest mostly focus on African American history and women’s history (mostly African American women). I want to make both blogs as diverse as I can. With the semester coming up, I know I won’t be able to do that on my own. Does anyone want to help me with the blogs? I am also aware of the fact that I spend a lot of my time on this blog and I neglect the other blogs. If...
I'm a feminist.
feministslut:
I’m
anti-racism
anti-classism
anti-cissexism
anti-heterosexism
anti-ableism
anti-sexism
anti-sizism
I firmly believe in equality for all. I do not believe any other word but feminism describes everything I believe in. I cannot stand any of the ism’s out there. I despise them all. All the ism’s work together. Which is why I firmly believe feminist is the best way to describe...

Slut-Shaming
crystalsavestheday:
Slut-shaming, also known as slut-bashing, is the idea of shaming and/or attacking a woman or a girl for being sexual, having one or more sexual partners, acknowledging sexual feelings, and/or acting on sexual feelings. Furthermore, it’s “about the implication that if a woman has sex that traditional society disapproves of, she should feel guilty and inferior” (Alon Levy, Slut...

Abstract
Background
Schizophrenia is a mental disorder marked by an evolutionarily puzzling combination of high heritability, reduced reproductive success, and a remarkably stable prevalence. Recently, it has been proposed that sexual selection may be crucially involved...
THE SEXISM OF BLACK SWAN
tabularasae:
Black Swan feeds into and supports one of the most destructive forms of sexism; the movie tells us that women are constantly in competition with one another—that a success of a woman can’t be appreciated and valued by other women—and that a woman’s innate sense of jealousy will drive her to hysteria, psychosis, and death. Black Swan uses this stereotype of women to quasi-effectively...

If you are transgender, you are more likely to be incarcerated, as discussed above. Once you enter incarceration, you are more likely to be inappropriately housed, because most systems use a highly medicalised, cissexist, and binarist system for making housing assignments. If you are assaulted while in prison, which you most probably will be, you are less likely to be provided...

We Can’t Be Equal While:
Gender Roles
Men are the default and women are the Other (and therefore lesser).
Being called “girly” or a “sissy” or “pussy” are some of the worst insults you can give a man.
When a woman shows confidence in herself, she is said to “have balls”, or conversely she is a “man-eater”, “ball-buster”, or a “bitch” because she was “too” assertive.
Men are beat up,...

You Start Wanting It
(Via Musings From The Soapbox)
Most of you will probably remember the much lamented TV show Huge. For those of you who don’t, it was a show about a group of teenagers at ‘fat camp’. Alongside the usual teenagery type stuff, it dealt with themes of fatness and other types of otherness, and did so with amazing insight, finesse and perspective. It was while I was watching the first...

A Tisket A Tangent; Kink And Rape Culture
(via The Rotound)
I was writing about new year’s resolutions, which I will totally get back to doing, I promise! But then I got all riled up about the way some people think kink is automatically, 100%, all of the time every time misogynistic and a way to perpetuate rape culture and I had to bust out my opinion on that.
Basically, I think it’s bullshit. While it is impossible to separate...

I see a lot of complaining on Tumblr and I see a lot of people telling others they have no right to complain simply because others have it worse. While I agree that many of our first world “problems” are trivial, we do share common struggles. Something is not judged based upon a comparison to another. For instance, let’s say there are 3 states of health: very...
Embracing genders and existing in genders
neutresex:
Embracing genders and existing in genders is as revolutionary as rejecting/abolishing/destroying/neglecting genders.
We’ve got to be able to recognize that genders can be powerful, beautiful, liberating, and meaningful tools just as we are able to recognize that genders can be destructive, harmful, and restricting.

This (see notes) is why I think triggers aren’t everything.
We’re trained in social justice circles to respect triggers (whose, though???) and that’s great, because one individual can’t wholly take care of her own health, she needs a community of support. But at some point you do need to be responsible for your own triggers.
Sometimes, triggers can be conflicting access needs....
