Call for art submissions for Gendered Intelligence Art Auction - please share widely!

genderedintelligence:

For the 2nd year running, Gendered Intelligence is hosting an art auction to raise money for our work improving the lives of young trans people.
Our art auction has proved to be a very successful event, last year raising £1500 for Gendered Intelligence trans youth.

Hopefully, with your support, we can make the second year into an even more fantastic fundraising effort that will go towards furthering the GI cause!

If you’ve wanted to contribute to Gendered Intelligence but haven’t had the funds or the time to donate, consider donating your artwork for our Art Auction!

We’re looking for anything artists are willing to submit - whether they be canvas paintings, photographic prints, sculptures, jewellery, etc. We encourage a diverse range of artwork - whether you’re a professional artist or you enjoy art as a casual hobby, we want your submissions!

The art auction will run alongside our annual holiday party on 15th December to celebrate all the work we’ve done in 2012.

We’re definitely interested in submissions from trans and gender variant artists, but if you’re an ally who’d like to submit to show your support, please do get in touch with us.

Please contact us to get involved! Or, if you’re not an artist, please repost this widely to your artistic friends and communities!

Deadline: November 23rd, 2012. More details below.

Labels and categories do not define you, they describe you. They’re a shorthand for expressing the complexity of your identity to others and a springboard from which you can explore and understand yourself. If a label isn’t working for you then you don’t have to use it. If a group is telling you there’s only one true way to be your kind of person, you don’t have to listen to them! DEAR GAY MEN OF THE WORLD~ Consider this a PSA~

I’m going to say this before I go off. I am NOT angry, rather just tired of this and I think it is important that this be said, so I’m going to say it. Dammit.

In case any of you haven’t already been told (and ESPECIALLY to those of you who have been told and continue to do it) a HUGE percentage of trans men (especially the ones who identify as GAY) find it extremely insensitive and very hurtful when you make jokes, statements, innuendos and whatever else otherwise pointing out that you are disgusted by girly bits (which yes, some of them still have causing them daily depression & hatred toward their bodies). In fact, it upsets a lot of biological females as well, which if I remember correctly make up of a large percentage of the gay male population’s closest friends?

Gay boys, WE GET IT. You don’t like the dreaded V-word. Apparently it horrifies you in ways straight men and lesbians will never understand because you feel the need to remind us ALL the time. let me just be clear here~we already know. I’m pretty sure it’s actually a general requirement for being a gay man, so I think we’re all pretty good with that news. KTHANKS. We don’t need constant reminders that our genitals are repulsive to you.  We have enough internal dislike for them already. We don’t need your help, but thanks so much for your support.

IF you truly give a shit about your fellow LGBT members please remember that TRANS people part of your community. THINK BEFORE YOU SPEAK. The next time you start to say something along the lines of “OMG I CAN’T HANDLE THE CLAM” or “OMG a…a…a VAGINA??!!!” crying hysterically while fleeing from the room with arms flailing in the air, please take a moment to remember that YOUR COMMUNITY is very diverse and some of those people identify with gender identities that don’t match their bodies. This is not always something they can change due to financial or medical reasons and is very upsetting to them. It’s NOT FUNNY. NOT FUNNY. annnndddd one more time…NOT FUNNY. It’s hurtful and it makes some trans men (like myself) feel very very very bad about themselves. Thank you for not reminding the boys in the trans community that they are still not looked upon as ‘real men’ in society unless they have a dick.

By the way, has anyone seen a dick lately? A very limited number of dicks qualify as ‘pretty’ so glass houses and all.

The more you know.
