“Feminist rant: expecting to lose followers”

thatisnotfeminism:

Tags and disclaimers like that make me really sad. Usually these are girls who are frustrated with the sexism they’ve encountered, and like most girls, they’ve been taught to expect this, not to whine about it because that’s just the way things are. But there comes a point for all feminists when you are just bombarded from all sides by sexism and misogyny, and you really can’t ignore it anymore and you HAVE to say something about it.

But why the fuck should you have to apologize and expect to be penalized by having people unfollow you for expressing an opinion? Why on earth would you think that it might be a rational response for someone who likes your blog to suddenly not want to listen to you anymore because you’ve said something that has made them think? Something that made them uncomfortable with the status quo?

Stop apologizing, guys. Stop putting disclaimers on your completely legitimate and valid opinions, feelings and commentary on this society steaming with sexist bullshit. If people unfollow you for talking about feminism, great, because they don’t deserve to enjoy your blog if they can’t face the facts.
