Puerto Rican nationalist Lolita Lebrón died in the city of San Juan at age 90 on August 1, 2010. She is better known for participating in a planned assault on the US Capitol building in 1954, for which she served 25 years in prison before being pardoned by US president Jimmy Carter. She continued to advocate for Puerto Rican independence throughout her life.
