nepantlera-en-la-frontera:

“¿Eres hombre? – a veces, ¿Eres Mujer? – a veces. —

URGENT APPEAL FOR DR CURTIS

unexpectedmoose:

As many of you know, London doctor, Dr Curtis, a trans doctor who treats trans people, has been at the centre of a huge NHS-sparked witch hunt against him. They have used my medical documents with my forced consent to twist my words and history of his care of me, whilst continuing to hurt and bar trans people, especially non binary people from life saving treatment.

See what we are saying by following the #transdocfail tag on Twitter- thousands of voices are speaking out and more and forced into silence in order to get meagre treatment, under a barrage of cissexism from doctors.

THIS IS TO INFORM YOU THAT UK GROUP GIRES IS COLLECTING SUPPORT LETTERS. They are coming to the aid of Curtis and need your letters and emails to back up the proof that he is a positive force in the world of UK trans treatment.

Please email them on: info@gires.org.uk for more information and ask for Bernard Reed who is the one orchestrating this.

Did you know 50% of transgender people surveyed reported having to teach their medical providers about transgender care?
Next week is Transgender Awareness Week, a series of statewide events and educational opportunities to inform people about the trans community and raise awareness of issues facing trans and gender noncomforming people in Massachusetts.
Fenway Health and The Borum will be participating by hosting events and by sharing information about the health disparities faced by trans people.

Books for transgender teens

thelifeguardlibrarian:

progressive-librarian:

Today at the reference desk I helped a patron & her home-schooled daughter who were looking for resources for transgendered [sic] teens and their families.  My library system is fairly large and cosmopolitan, but even so, we didn’t have a very large selection of materials on the subject.  As I looked for titles to add to our collection, I came across a few great booklists for LGTBQ young adult fiction and nonfiction.

There are many more great subject lists out there, but these sites gave me a good starting place to add to our library’s collection.

I want to make sure teens looking for support & information about being transgendered will be able to find books about kids like them at our public library. And I want them to know that they’re not alone.

Great resource! Thanks for sharing. And for those of you in the Chicagoland area, the Oak Park library has the wonderful Transgender Resource Collection. Dig.

Finalist in Vietnam song contest comes out as a trans woman

Huong Giang, finalist of the singing contest Vietnam Idol comes out publicly live as a transgender woman

Huong Giang made history in Vietnam when she came out live during Vietnam Idol as a transgender woman.

On Thursday (6 September) the TV talent show jury delivered their verdict to the 25-year-old finalist from Hanoi, praising her effort and determination.

Judge and film director Nguyen Quang Dung asked if Giang had previously auditioned for Vietnam Idol. After a few hesitant seconds the contestant admitted that she previously auditioned under a male name, Nguyen Ngoc Hieu.

Quang Dung praised Giang saying: ‘I really appreciate young people who dare to be true to themselves and other people. Whatever you do, you take responsibility for it.’

The jury asked the young girl what made her decide to change to which she responded: ‘I’ve got passion for singing and every single change in my life is for art. I didn’t change to win love or any kind of happiness. I think this is the real me and I have to change to be myself onstage.’

The three judges expressed their admiration of the young girl, who has been so brave to be and reveal herself publicly.

Quand Dung told Giang: ‘Since you once joined this competition, I feel more admiration for you because you were not good in the previous contest. And with such a change, from appearance to voice, I think you did a thing that not everyone can do.’

‘I know you had been afraid of revealing something true about yourself, but we all respect the truth and see no reason for you to avoid the path that you’ve chosen.’
